Sustainable and Organic Cotton Hoodies
1. Colorful Standard
Sustainability: Organic materials, recycled packaging, factory transparency
Price: $88 / £70
Best for: Comfy and ethical unisex hoodies
Colorful Standard creates comfy unisex hoodies from 100% organic cotton. The dyes are Oeko-Tex certified and free of known harmful chemicals to be kind to your skin.
Because the cotton is organic, the hoodies are PETA-approved vegan. Each hoodie is carefully made in Portugal in factories that adhere to strict EU labor laws. They even post the address of their factory on their website in case you want to visit and see for yourself,
We haven’t tested these hoodies in particular, but we have tried other products from Colorful Standard and have been impressed with the quality for the price point.
All of Colorful Standard’s products are shipped in recycled FSC packaging, and throughout the brand, they’re transparent about the materials and processes used.

2. Girlfriend Collective
Sustainability: Eco-friendly materials, plastic recycling process, SA8000 certified factories
Price: $98
Best for: Size inclusivity and a smart cropped style
Girlfriend Collective is a sustainable brand that makes a variety of activewear and loungewear, including high-quality, sustainable hoodies.
Their Classic Hoodie is a relaxed-fit made from 0% Texloop Recycled Cotton (taken from cutting room floors) and 50% organic cotton. Compared to a hoodie made from regular cotton, this saves 314 gallons of water and 0.95lbs of CO2e prevented— not bad.
The hoodie is soft and comfortable, and it’s lightweight but more than warm enough for cool evenings.
The hoodie has a slight crop for a boxy modern look, so consider that when choosing your size. Speaking of size, Girlfriend Collective is one of the most size-inclusive sustainable brands on the market at the moment, with sizes ranging from XXS to 6XL.

3. Pact
Sustainability: Sustainable and organic materials, transparent supply chain
Price: From $70
Best for: Organic cotton hoodies
Pact is known for making sustainable basics that look great. So, as you would hope, they’ve released a range of organic cotton hoodies that we’re thoroughly impressed with.
The Essential Vintage Hoodie Pullover (pictured) is made with 100% GOTS certified organic cotton and is entirely Fair Trade Certified.
The company is transparent about its supply chain, so it’s easy to find where your clothes are being produced and pay workers living wages. Although the brand isn’t vegan as they do use wool, they don’t use any leather,
They make several different variations of their hoodie, so it’s easy to find one that matches the style you’re looking for.

4. tentree
Sustainability: Certified B Corporation, ten trees planted for every purchase on the website, recycled materials, organic cotton, and climate-neutral production through offsetting
Price: $78
Best for Unique printed hoodies
tentree lives up to its name by planting ten trees for every sale made on their website.
They’re a certified B Corporation which means they need to uphold high ethical standards and are subject to audits, and if they ever fail, they would lose that status.
They have a range of plain hoodies, as well as ones with logos or patterns if you’re looking for something unique. The one pictured is from their partnership with National Geographic— for every hoodie, they’ll donate to National Geographic and support their mission to create positive environmental changes.
tentree’s hoodies use organic cotton, Recycled Polyester, and TENCEL materials. These materials help the brand reduce the amount of waster and chemicals they use in their production process, and the final result is an eco-friendly hoodie that feels soft and is as comfy as you’d hope it would be.

5. Mate the Label
Sustainability: Publish annual impact reports, organic materials, supply chain transparency and work with local factories
Price: Starts at $98
Best for: Comfy zip-on hoodies
Mate the Label is another of our favorite sustainable brands. They’re Climate Neutral Certified, a member of 1% For The Planet, and only work with local factories that abide by California labor laws, some of which are women-owned.
Mate’s Organic Terry Zip Hoodie pictured here is an excellent choice if you want a hoodie that’s easy to zip on and off and doesn’t need to be pulled over your head.
It’s made from 100% Organic Cotton French Terry, which is super soft and cozy, even after being washed on a cold cycle.
The hoodie is perfect for loungewear or running errands. However, if you want a slightly more baggy fit, choose a size up as they fit relatively true-to-size.
One thing we like about Mate is how they break down the cost-per-wear. So if you were your hoodie 50 times (trust us, you probably will!), it comes to just $2.44 per wear.
If you prefer a classic pull-on hoodie without the zips, Mate makes those too.

6. Summersalt
Sustainability: USDA certified sustainable materials, Oeko-Tex certified dyes, recycled packaging
Price: $102
Best for: Super soft cropped hoodies
We love Summersalt for their sustainable swimwear, but we also love their range of sustainable hoodies.
Their super-soft French Terry fabric is made using a blend of USDA-certified sustainable materials, including TENCEL, nodal, and cotton. The result? An eco-friendly, light, and comfortable hoodie you’ll never want to take off.
This hoodie, in particular, has a flattering cropped fit that comes down to the top of the hip, and the weight of the fabric means it doesn’t bunch up as you’re wearing it.
If you’re looking for something more luxurious, Summersalt also makes a cashmere blend hoodie.
Summersalt is a size-inclusive brand, and their hoodies come in seven different sizes and a range of unique pastel colors.

7. Kotn
Sustainability: Better Cotton initiative cotton, Certified B Corporation, supply chain transparency and work with factories who pay living wages
Price: $95
Best for: Organic cotton hoodies
Kotn makes minimalist, stylish essentials that we love. Every item relies on cotton sourced from Better Cotton Initiative certified partners and is ethically made in Portugal.
There are a few styles to pick from, including classic and zip-up hoodies, but we’re a fan of this half-zip one pictured for something slightly different.
The cotton quality means the fabric softens with age and never gets scratchy even after being washed multiple times.
Kotn also uses its profits for good. They partner with the Misr El Kheir Foundation, an Egyptian NGO, to reinvest profits into building educational facilities and schools to help children in need. So far, they’ve built seven schools.

Wrapping Up: Sustainable Hoodies
We hope you’ve now found the perfect sustainable hoodie. You may have noticed many hoodies in this list are made from organic cotton. so you may be wondering;
What’s the difference between organic and conventional cotton?
Organic cotton is a great eco-friendly alternative to conventional cotton. It helps reduce climate change and is healthier for the soil; as organic cotton is grown without any toxic pesticides or chemicals, biodiversity is boosted, and natural forms of pest control are used instead.
As hazardous chemicals and pesticides are banned in organic cotton farming, toxic pesticides can’t leech from the soil into waterways (a common problem in conventional cotton farming). Removing harmful pesticides and fertilizers protects human water supplies and the cotton farms’ communities.
In addition, organic cotton can be grown with up to 80% less water than conventional cotton – protecting the water usage in countries with scarce water supply. These are a couple of reasons organic cotton is a sustainable alternative compared to traditional cotton.
